Within the state of Georgia, Forsyth County is consistently viewed as an extremely healthy county. This isn’t an aberration or blip in the rankings. In fact, 2019 is the seventh straight year that Forsyth County has achieved this honor. Forsyth County, in fact, is deemed to be one of the healthiest counties in the United States. 

While there are several varying reasons for its stellar position in the health rankings, one of the most prominent explanations is that Forsyth County has some terrific outdoor activities. The quality and sheer number of outdoor activities make it easy for residents and visitors to exercise. In fact, many don’t explicitly leverage these activities for the sake of exercise. Lake Lanier

If you are looking to get in shape this summer, however, Lake Lanier is the place to go. As just one simple example, you can work on your abs while kayaking or canoeing on the lake. If you have several friends or family members who also want to get in shape, you can all row on the lake. Swimming is also an option—whether or not you want to adopt a strict swimming schedule. Essentially, if you enjoy water sports, Lake Lanier is perfect for you.

Forsyth County Central Park

Forsyth County Central Park is one of the many stellar parks located in the county. Simply put, if you are interested in sports, you will find something to do in Central Park. The park contains eight tennis courts, five youth baseball and softball fields, four adult softball fields, two soccer fields, and one turf football and lacrosse field. Whether you are a novice or professional, you will be able to take advantage of these fields in the hot, summer months.

Along with the sports fields, Central Park has some other fun activities. For baseball or softball lovers, there are batting cages in the park, giving you the chance to improve your swing. If you like running, jogging, or simply walking on a late summer night, there are 1.1 miles of paved walking trails. There is also a playground for those families that want to get outside. Ultimately, Central Park presents some great opportunities to get outside and build up a sweat.

Fowler Park

Fowler Park is another outstanding park for those who are interested in sports. Within Fowler Park, you can play tennis, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, and lacrosse. Whether you are interested in some or all of these sports, you can pursue your passion at Fowler Park.

Besides the opportunity to get competitive, Fowler Park is for you if you enjoy walking or running. Whether you take advantage of the Braille Trail or 1.5 miles of a paved walking trail, you can increase your heart rate at Fowler Park. And if you have a dog? Don’t hesitate to use Fowler Park’s dog park. Not only can your dog take advantage of some great weather, but you can meet some other dog owners in the community.

Caney Creek Preserve

Caney Creek Preserve is a more wooded area compared to others on this list, yet it presents a great chance for you to work on your cardio. Within Caney Creek Preserve, you can run or walk on 1.5 miles of a nature trail. It is a picturesque trail, so you can always slow down and simply enjoy the scenery. In addition to the nature trail, Caney Creek Preserve contains a dog park and a playground. It is a terrific place to take your family, whether you all want to be active or simply want to take advantage of a beautiful evening.

Sawnee Mountain Preserve

Sawnee Mountain Preserve is a great place to get in shape—particularly if you enjoy hiking. For instance, the Indian Seats Trail is a 3.5 to 4-mile round trip up to the summit of Sawnee Mountain. It is a great hike and presents some of the best views in the county. If you are hiking up with your family, it is also a great opportunity to take a mid-workout photo.

Ultimately, Sawnee Mountain Preserve has 963 acres of scenic passive space and hiking trails. If you enjoy working out while obtaining a great view, the Sawnee Mountain Preserve is an option. It is open from Monday through Saturday between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.

Big Creek Greenway

Finally, the Big Creek Greenway is another great place to exercise in Forsyth County. Within the greenway, you and your family can walk, jog, bike, or even inline skate. It is a large linear park that lets you be active while taking in the beauty of Forsyth County.

Currently, the Big Creek Greenway spans approximately 9.6 miles. Additionally, Forsyth County is undergoing a plan to expand the greenway. When that expansion plan is complete, the greenway will span 15 miles throughout Forsyth County.
